Frequently Asked Questions

How do I calculate concrete block quantity?

Block count = (Wall area ÷ (Block area + Mortar area)). Add 5-10% for waste and cuts.

What are standard concrete block sizes?

Common sizes: 8″ x 8″ x 16″, 6″ x 8″ x 16″, 12″ x 8″ x 16″. Actual dimensions are 3/8″ less to allow for mortar joints.

How much mortar do I need?

Approximately 3 bags of mortar per 100 blocks. Add 10% for waste.

What about openings in the wall?

Subtract the area of doors/windows from total wall area before calculating block quantity.

How do I account for different block patterns?

Standard running bond is most efficient. Special patterns may require 5-10% more blocks.
